As payment methodologies rapidly evolve from pay for volume to pay for value, executives and healthcare leaders need to be able to convert specific quality metrics (case mix index, length of stay, merit-based incentive system under MACRA, etc.) into financial metrics and statements of cash flows as a core competency. This will enable them to create business plans around proposed payer and provider contracts that make sense and will align the interests of the organization with specific stakeholders.

This course will introduce physicians to a number of topics, including but not limited to the inter-relationship between clinical and financial outcomes; provide information on why new payment methodologies require a deeper understanding of the financial implications of quality metrics; shed new light on how much money is truly on the table around clinical and quality outcomes and why monetizing quality is becoming a required core skill; explain how to convert quality metrics such as CMI, LOS, MIPS, and VBP; learn how to create aligned contracts with physicians and practitioners that make clinical and business sense; and, learn how to establish a business plan around physician/provider contracts that provide value to physicians/providers and generate value for the organization.

You'll Learn How To...

  • Explain the rationale for the monetizing quality management strategy
  • Review relevant tools and information necessary to make conversions from quality to financial metrics
  • Examine methods for making specific quality conversions to financial metrics
  • Discuss how to make decisions about quality projects and strategies based upon their potential return on investment (ROI)
  • Identify how to manage quality projects and strategies utilizing monetized quality metrics
  • Discuss how to create aligned contracts with physicians, practitioners, and payers that make clinical and business sense
