Abstract

This article, the third in a five-part series that describes the outcomes of a research study on physician leader development, explores how interprofessional education (IPE) enhances physician leadership development by fostering collaboration across professional faultlines. Drawing on faultline theory and comparative training outcomes, the article presents evidence that IPE cohorts outperform homogenous training programs in communication, trust-building, and inclusive leadership behaviors. Real-world leadership simulations and shared goals reduce subgroup bias, promote psychological safety, and prepare physicians, nurses, and administrators to lead together. Findings demonstrate measurable gains in behavioral leadership outcomes, highlighting IPE as a strategic asset in advancing team performance and healthcare delivery.
